The department of internal medicine forms one of the core departments in the hospital. It comprises the male and female wards, the casualty, isolation ward, hypertensive & diabetic clinic as well as the endoscopy unit. The department seeks to provide world-class medical care for acute and chronically ill patients within Koforidua and its environs. The ward capacity stands at 42 for females and 34 for males, with the casualty ward having a total capacity of 25. The department boasts some of the finest physician specialists in the region who provide specialist services in the form of cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology and soon, dermatology. The hardworking body of medical officers ensure that the very best medical care is rendered to all clients who seek medical attention both at the outpatient department as well as those who require inpatient care. Twice weekly general ward rounds are conducted at both male and female wards, with a weekly scientific presentation on Wednesdays. The department also serves as a centre for teaching where medical and physician assistant students attach sound practical experience to their theoretical knowledge.
